While last year’s inaugural event was a great success raising close to $5000, Founder and President Natalie Coleman aims to raise double that amount at the 2nd annual event. The project entitled “A Medal for Harriet”, aims to educate communities on the less told story of Harriet Tubman’s role in the Union Army and bring a transitional home for women veterans to Joliet, Illinois.
This year’s event looks to bring in a larger crowd through a gospel experience featuring Grammy nominated gospel artist Kierra Sheard. The concert will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Lockport, IL on June 16, 2018. The VIP Reception begins at 6:00 p.m. and includes a meet and greet with Kierra Sheard and other perks. The event will start at 7:00 p.m. and includes local gospel artist and community members. Funds raised will be used to support all phases of A Medal for Harriet, in addition to research endeavors and K-12 curriculum development.
Tickets range from $25-$45 and may be purchased at eventbrite.com under “A Gospel Experience”. There are also opportunities for individuals and businesses to be sponsors and be featured in marketing material. Those interested in becoming a sponsor can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 815-530-8687.
