MISSION AND VISION
Inspired by George Washington Carver, After the Peanut was created in 2014 and focuses on the power of knowledge and education in the face of adversity and challenges. Our goal is to transform communities by increasing awareness of STEM Careers and building equity in STEM education. We specialize in creating and providing STEM programs for 3rd-8th grade students.
Innovation is the core value of our company. Through innovation, we allow participants to delve into their creative side while collaborating in order to achieve a long lasting impact. Secondly, whether teaching students to think critically to solve problems or providing professional development for educators, we use best practices to enlighten, inspire and promote a desire for individual learning. Finally we strive to reach all learners and educators who want to embrace change, critically think and contribute to the next generation of thinkers, doers and leaders.
Natalie Coleman is the Founder and CEO of After the Peanut. She was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois and is a STEM enthusiast. She has over 15 years of experience as an educator and is also a combat veteran having served as a Military Police Officer in the Illinois Army National Guard. She holds a Masters of Education from Governors State University and a Bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Illinois. Some of her professional work and accomplishments include providing trainings on Global Competency and Next Generation Science Standards for the state of Illinois, National Geographic Educator of the Week, National Science Teacher Association Presenter, TED Innovative Educators, guest speaker at the Houston Aquarium Educator's Open House and SXSWedu Mentor and Panelist.
Trainers traditionally travels to clients site for most trainings, workshops and programs. We also have a STEM Center located in the Fairmont Community Center located at 525 Barry Avenue in Lockport, IL 60441 where we host STEM related events throughout the year.
