After the Peanut is Nominated for National Intern Day!
August 1, 2021
After the Peanut is proud to announce that the company has been nominated for National Intern Day! Throughout its successful programs, After the Peanut has credited the help and skill sets of their interns and other students of Lewis University for providing a strong and exciting education and programming for campers.
National Intern Day is a holiday created by WayUp, a job site for college students and recent graduates aimed at matching employers with top-notch talent. The holiday was created as a way to recognize and celebrate interns, the future leaders of the world.
Though July 29 is designated as National Intern Day, After the Peanut has remained committed to hosting diverse interns since 2014. Working with a close-knit team in a startup environment, After the Peanut’s interns gain valuable experience collaborating with senior leadership and team members and learn how a small business functions to create successful programs.
Throughout recent years, internships have become an integral part of many college’s curricula, with almost no college student possessing a resume absent of at least one internship. Unlike in the classroom, where students sit and take notes on a lecture relevant to their field of study, internships allow students to see what their desired job is actually like, and gain hands-on experience and advice from their supervisors and even potential employers.
Not only do internships benefit a student, but hosting internships is also a wise choice for a company or small business. While interns bring their skills and provide some extra help on a company's current project, they also provide a fresh perspective that only a college student of today can contribute.
With COVID-19, the format of internships may have changed, but the importance and symbiotic relationship between intern and employer remains. Dispute challenges throughout the last year, After the Peanut recognizes this and stays committed to offering opportunities to current students, with flexible hours and consistent meetings for student feedback.
Since its creation, After the Peanut has provided internships for students belonging to a variety of majors, including biology, computer science, political science, journalism and more! After the Peanut is also known for employing graduates of Lewis University, showcasing the benefits of community partnerships.
As the fall semester approaches, After the Peanut is sure to add more interns to the team and will undoubtedly gain more recognition for preparing current students for their careers.
Inspired by George Washington Carver, After the Peanut was founded in 2014 and opened its STEM Center in 2018. The company focuses on the power of knowledge and education in the face of adversity and challenges. Their goal is to transform communities by increasing educational opportunities for underrepresented groups in STEM.
