After the Peanut is delighted to announce that they will be hosting a 2021 Summer STEAM Camp at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, where your child will soar to new heights!

This Summer STEAM Camp will energize your child and immerse them into engaging, innovative and forward-thinking STEAM experiences. Choose from 10 unique STEAM weekly topics! Running from June 7 to August 13, each week offers hands-on, real world, active STEAM activities for ages 9-17 years old.

Throughout the camp, each week comes with something new to learn about STEAM! Participating students will not only take part in hands-on STEAM activities each class, but they will also receive guidance from professionals in this field and learn from their experiences. Special guests including Celebrity Chef Arron Sain and Lewis University Sustainability Director Dr. John Lerczak will teach students about opportunities in the STEAM field.

Each week, students can participate in field trips pertaining to the topics the students are learning that week. Throughout the 10-week course, students will engage in interactive STEAM activities tailored to their grade level. Each class will consist of only 10 students, not only to remain COVID-safe, but also because After the Peanut knows that students are more engaged and focused in small group environments.

STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics, emphasizes career paths students can choose after high school in these academic disciplines. After the Peanut CEO, Natalie Coleman, knew the importance of creating a STEAM camp for students, as an adequate STEAM education has taken a backseat in some schools, but with COVID-19, the lack of access to STEAM education has only become a larger problem.

“As a previous science high school teacher, I realized the importance of getting STEAM opportunities in front of students at an early age,” said Coleman. “Students begin to decide on careers as early as third grade, which is a pivotal point in a student’s academic career.”

Lewis University sociology professor Dr. Jennifer Buntin is thrilled to be partnering with After the Peanut and knows the impact a summer activity can have on the future of students.

“It will be fun for them to do during the summer, but it will also give them a starting point for figuring out what they’re interested in doing for their careers and also being able to develop some of those skills that are highly valued in society,” said Buntin.

Students will learn from experienced instructors with training in education and an obvious passion for STEAM and helping the next generation of learners, thinkers and doers. In addition to a strong STEAM experience, the camp will also emphasize skill building in collaboration, communication and teamwork.

Lewis University is not only hosting the camp, but the institution’s Robert Noyce Scholarship recipients will serve as instructors and volunteers for the camp. Students will also get the opportunity to meet with professors, tour the campus’ state-of-the-art buildings and participate in physical activities to keep their bodies and minds active.

Visit to register your child for this one-of-a-kind STEAM experience today! A sibling discount is available with the registration of more than one child and students who are enrolled in five or more weeks at one time will receive a discount as well.  Before care services start at 7:30 a.m. and extended hours are until 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee.
