After the Peanut Partners with Small Businesses for their Urban Agriculture Box Pop-Ups!
August 17, 2021
[Will County, IL]---As After the Peanut wraps up a successful Summer STEAM Camp program, the company will continue to inspire kids to engage in STEAM resources while partnering with a variety of organizations to give out several Urban Agriculture Boxes! Each box includes gardening tools, healthy recipes, seeds for growing produce at home, and a gift card to encourage trying new healthy recipes!
The first round of boxes were distributed at the Elevate Pop Up Shop at the Joliet Slammers Stadium in partnership with Molina Cares on August 7. The boxes serve as a response to the growing urban agriculture movement that has been taking off throughout our country. As families and communities look to improve their health, they can start by creating their own gardens at home. For this event, After the Peanut partnered with the MolinaCares Accord to answer the need for families to have healthier lifestyles and implement solutions to close ongoing health inequities.
Established by Molina Healthcare, Inc., the MolinaCares Accord oversees a community investment platform created to improve the health and well-being of disadvantaged populations by funding meaningful, measurable, and innovative programs and solutions that improve health, life, and living in local communities. The MolinaCares Accord funds such measures through The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) established in 2020 by Molina Healthcare, Inc.
As a small business owner and educator, After the Peanut CEO Dr. Natalie Coleman is grateful for the partnership with The MolinaCares Accord, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Illinois. “This is a much needed service now more than ever with the exasperation of health disparities coming to the forefront,” said Dr. Coleman.
After the Peanut will continue to provide much-needed services by partnering with small businesses and other organizations later this summer. The next Urban Agriculture Box Pop-Up will be featured at the Back to School Open House at the Dirksen Junior High School on August 16. Dirksen and After the Peanut want to provide a warm welcome to students as they head back to the classroom this fall, and will provide them with exciting ways to learn about nutrition and urban farming.
Especially after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, initiatives to work with the urban agriculture communities in Will County are imperative to giving families affordable and accessible options as they buy produce. By partnering with Dirksen, After the Peanut is showing kids and their parents that locally grown food and gardening in your own backyard is a great way for families to bond as they connect with the earth and the source of their food.
On September 18, After the Peanut will continue to provide resources with their Urban Agriculture Box Pop-Up in collaboration with the National Hookup of Black Women (NHBW), Inc. in Joliet. This partnership demonstrates an effort to create an atmosphere which enables women to effect meaningful changes in their own communities. While NHBW, Inc. works to improve the quality of life, facilitate family preservation, achieve self-empowerment, and promote economic development, After the Peanut will remain dedicated to their mission to focus on the power of knowledge and education as they work with a diverse array of women from all economic, social, and educational levels.
